Who was Christian Lemesle? Was he a French Resistance fighter? Or was he to be found gathering sticks while hiding in the forest? Or was he nursing an absinthe alone at the end of the bar at the Deux Magots? Overshadowed by the towering genius of Picasso would he suffer the brunt of Picasso's cruel humor normally reserved for the Cubist's children and mistresses? The only purported existing photo of Lemesle, a blurred figure again in Picasso's shadow, is represented here.
